London Catholic Worker Arrested

A friend from the London catholic Worker's has just been sentenced to 16 days in prison for refusing to pay a fine of £450 for protesting at a 'No Borders' event at Yarlswood Immingration Detention Centre.

Zelda Jeffries is an enthusiastic and ever-smiling member of the London Catholic Worker's and a volunteer working with the London homeless.

Yarlswood is run by the prison service in much the same way as a prison accept for two things:
a) Children are held with adults
b) No one held has been convicted with a crime, rather they are often escaping persecution.

She has been sent to HMP Peterborough. Asuming Zelda gets half off for 'good behaviour', she should be released on Monday 9th November, probably in the morning.

If you want to write to her or send her a card of support, to assure her of your prayers, you can

- post a letter (although the postal strike obviously makes it seem unlikely to get through before Monday )

- either to the prison at:
Zelda Jeffers BD3976,
HMP Peterborough,
Saville Road,
Westwood,
Peterborough PE3 7PD

- or to us at :
London Catholic Worker,
16 De Beauvoir Road,
London N1 5SU
