St Katharine's Churchyard has become an important place for many people in our community, a place of stillness, of humour, and of making new friends. We're blessed to still have an open churchyard and hope to do so for many years to come.
But a space this big and complex takes a lot of up-keep. It needs the people who come and tend individual plots as well as those who do more than their share.
At the moment most of the work is done by three men, one of who is in his 80s but still works the equivalent of a full-working week maintaining the grounds. He doesn't want paying, or even recognition, but sees the value of the work.
If you would like to help out at the churchyard please contact one of our churchwardens or simply turn up and pitch in. If you already quitely do your bit we'd love to hear from you and find out how we can encourage you.
The whole creation is God's commonwealth for us all and we set aside this space as witness to that. Thanks to all of those who make this possible.
A Prayer for God's Acre
God of Abundant Generosity,
All creation is your commonwealth and glorifies you more than choirs of angels,
Strengthen and encourage those who visit St Katharine's Church and grounds,
May they know your peace in that place,
So that they might be peacemakers to a hurting world.
We make our prayer through Jesus Christ,
who lived, loved, and rose from death,
by the power of the Spirit of Creation,
Amen.
